Embark on a bird watching excursion at the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary. Your experience begins on a traditional raft, commonly used by locals in the area and referred to as a paalam paaruwara in our native tongue. Although less visited by bird watchers, Kalametiya is home to over 150 species of water and land birds and is a peaceful and serene sanctuary. Over 50 are migratory species.

The surrounding area consist of lagoons, shrub jungles, mangroves and grassy land which provide an ideal haven for bird life. The raft can also be docked on a part of the reserve, where other animal species including mammals, fish and reptiles can be sighted. A nearby rock provides a 360 degree view of the entire sanctuary.
